Green Building
We are proud to have guided projects so that they can earn the prestige of LEED certification—the standard set by the U.S. Green Building Council. We work together with clients to create beautiful, healthy, low-maintenance buildings with minimal impact on the environment.
Great reasons to "build green" abound—saving on fuel and power for heating and cooling, conserving precious water, reducing environmental impact, minimizing indoor and outdoor air pollution, and much more.
Several aspects of green building are "low-tech,” and many come from a new generation of excellent sustainable and recycled materials now available. Though the initial cost of green building can be slightly higher than conventional building, this expense is recouped many times over in the long term through energy efficiency, less water use, and lower maintenance costs.
Some fundamental green building techniques include:
- choosing local, renewable, and/or recycled building materials
- using better insulation and windows to reduce heating and cooling costs
- finishing with nontoxic products
- minimizing construction waste and fuel usage
- designing buildings to fit people and purpose—for example sized appropriately and oriented to take advantage of natural light
Additionally, as a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a nonprofit organization that sets the industry standards for green building via a point-based system called LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), Sarcon offers the necessary guidance to clients who wish to make a prominent example in the community by earning LEED certification. Our employees continue to attend regular LEED training sessions and we actively exchange ideas with local green builders and environmental experts to develop new directions in this important effort.
